The families of American prisoners held in Gaza have urged the White House to negotiate directly with Hamas for their sons’ release.
According to NBC News, citing sources familiar with the matter, the Biden administration is contemplating this approach.
In a meeting with National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, the families of the American captives, including Goldberg-Polin, also called on the administration to consider strategies that exclude Israeli involvement.
Officials have indicated they will explore all possible options, though a deal involving Israel is still considered the most viable path.
This development follows President Biden’s criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s efforts to secure a ceasefire, which is unusual for the U.S. President.
This criticism comes amidst widespread public discontent in Israel over Netanyahu’s handling of negotiations for the release of Israeli prisoners.
On Sunday, it was confirmed that six Israeli captives, including American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, had been killed, with their bodies found in Rafah.
Currently, there are four American prisoners believed to be alive in Gaza, while efforts are underway to recover the remains of three others who are presumed dead.
