The Israeli army has dropped a new mass evacuation order on the southern districts of Khan Younis city, disseminating the notice via SMS, phone calls, recorded audio messages, and Arabic-language media broadcasts.
This latest directive follows last week’s evacuation of the eastern areas of the war-ravaged southern city, which compelled approximately 180,000 Palestinian residents to flee within a span of four days, often with scant belongings.
In its latest order, Israel’s military said it would “act strongly against terrorist organisation” in Khan Younis.
UN agencies have sharply criticised Israel’s policy of mass displacement of Gaza’s civilian population and attacks by its military on areas previously declared to be so-called “safe zones” by Israel.
The UN’s humanitarian aid agency warned that hundreds of Palestinians remain trapped in eastern Khan Younis “amid intense hostilities” and lack of food for almost a week and rescue teams are “unable to reach them due to the denial of access by the Israeli military”.
