Ukraine announced Friday July 26th, 2024 that it will send 1,000 tones of wheat to Gaza through Jordan as part of a 7,000-tonne aid package for the war-torn territory.
This shipment, Kyiv’s first contribution to the international relief effort, aims to help over two million Palestinians facing Israeli-imposed starvation, as Israel’s blockade has restricted the entry of aid, water, fuel, and medicine for the past 10 months.
The Ukrainian embassy noted that the wheat was transported from Jordan to Gaza via Israel, with a land corridor partially managed by the UN World Food Programme. Another 6,000 tonnes of wheat will be delivered soon.
“We will do whatever we can to guarantee that the victims of the war in Palestine don’t suffer from hunger,” said Myroslava Shcherbatiuk, Ukraine’s ambassador to Jordan.
