The tragic death of Dr. Hassan Hamdan, a renowned specialist in reconstructive surgery, has left Gaza with only one remaining expert in this critical field.
Dr. Hamdan, 65, had come out of retirement to aid the overwhelmed hospitals amidst Israel’s ongoing military assault, which has resulted in countless injuries from blasts and shrapnel.
Dr. Hamdan was killed in an Israeli air raid while sheltering with his family in what was designated a “safe zone” by Israeli occupation.
The raid also claimed the lives of his wife, son, two daughters, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, six grandchildren, and one other person.
With Dr. Hamdan’s passing, Gaza’s healthcare system faces a dire shortage of specialized care. Other doctors are now forced to acquire wound reconstruction skills on the job, striving to manage the daily influx of severely injured patients.
The loss of Dr. Hamdan not only impacts his immediate family but also exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in Gaza’s hospitals.
