In a shocking attack that has ignited widespread condemnation, 20-year-old Qusai Younis Abu Riyala fell victim to brutal abuse and torture at the hands of Israeli occupation forces at the western entrance to the village of Al-Isawiya in occupied Jerusalem. The disturbing ordeal, which left Riyala battered and traumatized, sheds light on the alarming patterns of violence and oppression perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces in Palestinian territories.

According to Riyala’s harrowing account, he and his cousin were stopped at a “temporary” checkpoint set up by Israeli occupation forces. What initially appeared to be an identity check quickly escalated into a nightmare. Armed with rifles and batons, more than 15 Israeli soldiers reportedly attacked Riyala and his cousin without provocation. The Israeli soldiers subjected Riyala to severe physical violence, including beatings with rifle stocks, pepper gas spraying, and torture involving burning hot water.

Recalling the horrifying attack, Riyala expressed his shock and inability to describe in words the brutality he endured. “For the first time, I first-hand experience the ugliness and barbarism of the Israeli occupation, which lacks any human feelings,” he said.

The marks of Riyala’s ordeal were impossible to ignore. His face, head, neck, chest, and back were covered in bruises and cuts, and his eyes were swollen from the abuse. His throat bore the effects of pepper gas sprayed inside his mouth. Despite the agony, Riyala maintained his innocence against the charges brought by Israeli occupation authorities, including “obstructing the work of the police” and “attempting to attack a policeman using the motor key.”

Riyala’s release from custody was accompanied by a chilling revelation. Surveillance footage from cameras worn by the Israeli occupation forces reportedly confirmed that Riyala had been assaulted without any apparent reason.

The attack has sparked outrage both within Palestine and internationally. Mohammed Abu al-Hommos, a Jerusalemite activist, condemned the Israeli unchecked brutality in Palestinian villages, highlighting the absence of accountability. The attack underscores a broader pattern of aggression against Palestinian youth in the village of Al-Isawiya, revealing a distressing lack of restraint.

Abu al-Hommos pointed out that the residents of Al-Isawiya have long been targets of Israeli oppression. This latest incident is reminiscent of a brutal attack on the village that occurred two years ago, resulting in the death of a Palestinian and leaving several young boys blinded by Israeli gunfire.

While the residents of Al-Isawiya remain resilient in the face of adversity, the attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and freedom in the occupied territories. As tensions escalate and the world watches, the international community is left questioning the implications of such unchecked Israeli violence on the prospects for peace and stability in the region.
