Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has opted to delay a meeting regarding a proposal to partition the occupied West Bank into two separate regions.
The meeting, originally planned for next week, was intended to address the deeply contentious settlement plan within the E1 region of the occupied West Bank.
Over the course of more than two centuries, numerous Democratic and Republican administrations in the United States have urged Israel to refrain from constructing a settlement in the region located between occupied Jerusalem and the illegal Jewish settlement of Maale Adumim in the occupied West Bank.
The construction of an Israeli settlement in this particular region would result in the division of the occupied West Bank from the holy city of Jerusalem, effectively impeding Palestinian territorial continuity and significantly hindering the prospects of establishing a future Palestinian state.
According to Axios, the reported decision has stirred discontent among Jewish settlers, as Netanyahu seems to be aiming to reduce tensions with the Biden administration in the hopes of securing an invitation for a meeting with the US president at the White House.
