The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, has expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in the West Bank, particularly the Israeli forces and settlers’ violence it witnessed over the past 24 hours in Hawara, near Nablus.
Wennesland held the Israeli occupation forces responsible for maintaining security and preventing settlers from taking the law into their own hands.
He said, “There is no justification for terrorism, nor for acts of arson and revenge against civilians. All perpetrators of acts of violence must be held accountable. Violence, provocations, and incitement must stop immediately and be unequivocally condemned by all.”
In his statement, Wensland urged both sides to make every effort to address the core issues driving the conflict in line with UN resolutions, international law, and previous agreements, including the Oslo principles.
He indicated that the United Nations will remain committed to supporting the Palestinian people and achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.
Despite the Israeli occupation’s pledge to abide by international law and international resolutions on the Palestinian issue, on top of which are 194 and 242 Resolutions, as a condition for its acceptance as a member of the United Nations.
Since the establishment of the Israeli occupation state in 1948, its successive governments have not stopped violating the rights of the Palestinians and attacking them in all ways.
The extremism and racism of the Israeli occupation increased with the establishment of the new fascist Israeli government, as it escalates its crimes and violations against the Palestinians, ignoring all international laws and treaties.
