Today, Wednesday, January 18, a diplomatic delegation from the European Union visited the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem and was briefed on the developments of the situation there.
The delegation, which included 35 representatives and consuls from the European Union, was received by the Director General of the Islamic Endowments and Affairs of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Azzam Al-Khatib, and the Director of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Omar Al-Kiswani, and a number of directors and officials of the Islamic Endowments.
Al-Khatib welcomed the representatives of the European Union and the accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of their visit to Al-Aqsa Mosque as an Islamic mosque under.
Al-Khatib accompanied the representatives of the European Union on a tour during which he informed them of all the features of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its area of 144 dunums, and gave them an explanation of the importance of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the occupation’s attempt to change the status quo in it through the continued settlers’ incursions into it.
He reviewed the most prominent Israeli violations against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings, and the difficult and escalating conditions that the mosque suffers from, in flagrant violation of the existing religious, historical and legal status of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Khatib called on the delegation to take urgent action in order to preserve the Islamic and Christian sanctities in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, foremost of which is Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He called for pressure on the occupation government to stop all violations against the mosque and to return to the existing historical status of the mosque as an Islamic mosque for Muslims alone, with an area of 144 square meters, and not to prejudice the functions and powers of the Islamic Endowments Department.
