Israeli occupation forces detained on Thursday, January 5, 2023, a Palestinian child while he was on his way back to home from school in Hebron.
According to local Palestinian sources, Israeli occupation forces detained the Palestinian child, Omar Azarow, 14, after keeping him holding him for hours.
Although international human rights conventions stress the need to provide protection for children and give them opportunities for education and development in a safe and sound manner, the occupation forces have made detaining Palestinian children a primary goal.
During the year 2022, the Israeli occupation forces detained 865 Palestinian children and tortured and abused them, some of them were seriously injured, and some of them did not exceed 10 years of age.
Until the end of December 2022, the number of Palestinian detainees in the occupation prisons reached 4,700 detainees, including 29 female prisoners and 150 children, and about 850 administrative detainees, including 7 children, two females, and 15 journalists, according to human rights organizations specialized in the Palestinian detainees’ affairs.
