Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli police announced on Wednesday it closed case of killing Palestinian minister over lack of enough evidence against Israeli policeman.
Israeli news website Arutz Sheva reported the Israeli Police Internal Investigations Department closing the case “without interrogating the policeman or requiring his testimony,” noting that the autopsy, done on the minister’s boy, concluded that he died of a heart attack.
Abu-Ein died on December 10, 2014, when an Israeli border police officer beat him with his helmet and the butt of his gun on his chest during a peaceful march in the Palestinian village of Turmusayya in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Palestinian, Jordanian and Israeli doctors carried out an autopsy for the body of the minister and concluded that he died due to the attack of the policeman, in addition of breathing tear gas.
Arutz Sheva reported Emily Shefer, the Israeli lawyer from the Israeli right group Yesh Din, which represented the minister’s family, commenting on closing the case saying: “At least the border policeman should have been summoned for questioning.”
The Israeli soldiers and officers, who witnessed the incident, testified during the investigation that the border police officer had used “unreasonable force,” according to Arutz Sheva. Therefore, the lawyer said: “It seems that there is no desire to get to the truth of the matter.”
Replying to the lawyer, the Israeli news website reported, Israeli Internal Investigations said: “Since policemen are authorised to use force and it is expected of them in many cases to use it, Internal Investigations will not summon a policeman for investigation if there is not a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed.”
