Days of Palestine, New York –Human Rights Watch said on Thursday that the Israeli occupation committed war crimes during the latest savage war on the Gaza Strip.
The organisation, which is based in New York, said that the issue is related to the three Israeli attacks on the UN schools, which were used as shelters for the civilians displaced from their homes because of the Israeli strikes at them.
“Three Israeli attacks that damaged Gaza schools housing displaced people caused numerous civilian casualties in violation of the laws of war,” Human Rights Watch said.
On its website, the HRW said: “In the first in-depth documentation of the violations, Human Rights Watch investigated the three attacks, which occurred on July 24 and 30, and August 3, 2014, and killed 45 people, including 17 children.”
The organisation said that the Israeli occupation army premeditatedly carried out the attacks on the school as all of them were clearly marked with UN signs.
Special Adviser at Human Rights Watch Fred Abrahams said: “The Israeli military carried out attacks on or near three well-marked schools where it knew hundreds of people were taking shelter, killing and wounding scores of civilians.”
He continued: “‘Israel’ has offered no convincing explanation for these attacks on schools where people had gone for protection and the resulting carnage.”
“Two of the three attacks Human Rights Watch investigated – in Beit Hanoun and Jabalya – did not appear to target a military objective or were otherwise unlawfully indiscriminate.
“The third attack in Rafah was unlawfully disproportionate if not otherwise indiscriminate. Unlawful attacks carried out wilfully – that is, deliberately or recklessly – are war crimes.”
