Days of Palestine – Al-Naqab
The Israeli occupation government is going to approve next week a plan to build a city and settlement in the occupied Al-Naqab (Negev) southern region of Palestine.
Hebrew media reported on Thursday that the city will be built to house ultra-Orthodox Jewish families (Haredim) in Arad area, northeast of Beersheba.
The Haredi city will include more than 20,000 housing units and accommodate at least 100,000 settlers. Other projects will be built in the city such as a medical center, stores, and religious schools.
The construction of this city would start in a few months if the plan received approval from the government, according to Yedioth Ahronoth.
As for the settlement, it will be built within the area of the Ramat HaNegev regional council, which is near the Egyptian border. It will contain thousands of housing units for 2,200 settler families.
Israeli construction and housing minister Zeev Elkin and interior minister Ayelet Shaked will present the plan to their government next Sunday.
Shaked claimed this plan aims to provide homes at low prices and solve the housing problem, describing the project as “Zionist and strategic par excellence.”
