DaysofPal- More than 19,000 children enrolled in schools have been killed and around 28,000 others injured in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli genocidal war over two years ago, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
In a statement marking World Children’s Day, observed annually on 20 November, the ministry said that hundreds of schools, kindergartens, childhood centers, nurseries, and playgrounds across Gaza and the West Bank have been completely or partially destroyed since the beginning of what it described as a campaign of genocide.
The ministry emphasized that on this day, dedicated globally to affirming children’s rights to protection, education, dignity, care, and play, Palestinian children deserve to live in a stable and safe environment that guarantees their right to free, quality education, as upheld by international conventions, including the 1959 Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child.
While countries and institutions around the world mark the occasion, violations by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinian children continue across Gaza, Jerusalem, and Area C of the West Bank, the ministry said.
“There is hardly a day that passes without mourning a child killed by a settler or an Israeli soldier,” the statement noted, stressing that behind every statistic lies a story of dreams and aspirations shattered in moments.
The ministry added that the impact of Israeli attacks on children in Gaza remains visible and demands accountability and deterrence.
The Ministry of Education called for urgent protection for Palestinian children and school students, increased support for educational relief and recovery efforts in Gaza, the rehabilitation of damaged educational infrastructure, and the expansion of psychosocial support programs for affected students.
It also urged continued investment in equitable, high-quality education that strengthens resilience and stability.
