DaysofPal- The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Saturday of the risk of famine in the northern Gaza Strip as the Israeli blockade imposed on the region for the second consecutive month tightens.
The Director of the WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus, said in a post on the X platform that ‘the warning from global food security experts about the possibility of famine in the northern Gaza Strip is very worrying.
Ghebreyesus called for an immediate increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza, emphasizing the need for safe access, particularly for food and medicines, to address severe malnutrition within days, not weeks.
A UN report warned on Friday of ‘a strong possibility of imminent famine’ in northern Gaza, as the Israeli occupation continues to devastate the region.
The report emphasized that the humanitarian situation is extremely dangerous and deteriorating rapidly.
The UN has repeatedly warned of the worsening humanitarian situation in the northern Gaza Strip, highlighting that civilians are dying of hunger before the world, where the living conditions are deadly, with the UN stressing the urgent need to stop Israeli crimes.

These Israeli attacks have resulted in over 2,000 martyrs, 4,000 wounded, hundreds missing, and more than 600 detainees.
The Israeli crimes also included the destruction of water wells and desalination plants, as well as bombing bakeries and burning shelters. This criminal Israeli policy is aimed at forcibly displacing the residents of the northern Gaza Strip.
The northern Gaza Strip is facing dire conditions due to the shortage of potable water, medicines, and food supplies, along with the prevention of aid entry.
Coupled with ongoing aerial and artillery bombardment, bulldozing, and demolition operations, this has worsened the humanitarian crisis.
The Israeli genocide and the war crimes against civilians in the Gaza Strip have entered their 400th consecutive day, coinciding with intense and ongoing artillery and air bombardment operations, as well as the demolition of homes and residential areas.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the death toll from the Israeli genocide against the Gaza Strip has risen to 43,508 killed and 102,684 wounded since October 7, 2023.
