DaysofPal- The World Health Organization (WHO) strongly condemned the Israeli assault at Kamas Adwan Hospital, where the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) launched a large-scale military operation around the Hospital, raiding it and setting parts of the hospital on fire.
The WHO has stated that the systematic dismantling of Gaza’s health system by Israeli forces constitutes “a death sentence” for tens of thousands of Palestinians reliant on medical care.
The WHO explained that the Israeli storming of Kamal Adwan Hospital and the subsequent destruction caused by fire rendered the last major health facility in northern Gaza non-operational.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the WHO commented on the devastation, noting that critical departments within the hospital had been severely damaged or destroyed during the raid.
The international organization reported that 25 critically ill patients and 60 healthcare workers remain inside Kamal Adwan Hospital, while patients in moderate to serious condition were transferred to the Indonesian Hospital.
However, the latter has also been vandalized and is unable to provide adequate services.
The WHO expressed grave concern for the safety of patients and staff, emphasizing that the assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital follows months of increasing Israeli restrictions on the organization’s access to the facility and repeated attacks on the hospital and its surroundings since October 2023.
The WHO called for an immediate end to the violence, the protection of health services, and the implementation of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
On Friday, IOF stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, evacuating medical staff, patients, and residents from nearby areas.
Those evacuated were forced to move to Al-Fakhoura School, where they were detained in the schoolyard.
The assault did not end there; IOF set the hospital on fire, rendering it completely non-operational.
Earlier, Gaza’s government media office reported that Israeli forces had detained 350 people at the hospital, including 180 staff members and 75 patients along with their companions.
The detainees were reportedly given limited time to vacate the premises.
The office added that the detainees were forced to remove their clothing and were taken to an undisclosed location.
The media office condemned the attack as a full-fledged war crime, asserting that its objective was the destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system as part of a broader policy of genocide against the Palestinian people.
In a statement, Hamas commented: “We categorically deny the presence of any military personnel or resistance fighters in the hospital, whether from the Qassam Brigades or any other faction. The hospital was open to everyone, and international and UN institutions familiar with its operations can attest to this.”
Since October 7, 2023, with American support, Israel has been accused of committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in more than 153,000 Palestinian casualties, including martyrs and the wounded—most of whom are women and children.
Additionally, over 11,000 individuals remain missing amid widespread destruction and famine, which has claimed the lives of dozens of children and elderly individuals, marking one of the worst humanitarian disasters in modern history.
