DaysofPal- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has issued a stark condemnation of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in both the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, describing the situation as “absolutely horrific.”
In remarks delivered during a session with the Council on Foreign Relations, Türk stated:
“If you look at all the statements I’ve made … I speak about Gaza almost every week. War crime upon war crime, crime against humanity upon crime against humanity.”
He emphasised the grave nature of the violations occurring, underscoring that the scale of atrocities requires immediate international attention and accountability.
Türk renewed his call for urgent and concrete action to alleviate the suffering of civilians, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional release of hostages.
“The solution is clear: We need a ceasefire. We need the release of all hostages, and I believe we need a path for peace,” he added.
His comments come amid growing concern from humanitarian agencies, which continue to report indiscriminate military operations, mass displacement, and the collapse of essential services across Gaza, alongside escalating violence in the West Bank.
The UN rights chief’s strong language serves as yet another reminder of the urgent need for a political resolution and the enforcement of international law in the occupied Palestinian territories.
