The spokesman for the National Security Council at the White House John Kirby stated on Monday evening, June 12, that the United States has repeatedly expressed its concern about the illegal Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank.
Kirby said US policy rejects any unilateral decisions aimed at expanding Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
“We made clear our concerns about the increase of building settlements in the West Bank a long time ago, and we do not want to see measures that would make the two-state solution much more difficult,” he added.
Last May, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller criticized the Israeli occupation’s moves to legalize the “Homesh” settlement in the West Bank, which is against international law.
Today, the Israeli occupation revealed a plan to build 4,000 new illegal settlement units on Palestinian lands across the occupied West Bank.
Since 1967, each Israeli government has continued building and expanding the settlements in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, both in terms of the occupied area and population.
Over 600,000 Israeli settlers live in over 230 settlements built since 1967, which are illegal under international law.
On June 8, the Special Representative of the European Union for Human Rights, Eamonn Gilmour, stressed that Israeli settlements, Palestinian home demolitions, and forced displacement of Palestinians are totally illegal.
