DaysofPal– The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has confirmed it has lost all contact with its personnel in the Gaza Strip amid a total communication shutdown.
According to the agency, the blackout is a result of the complete collapse of telecommunications infrastructure across Gaza. This marks the third consecutive day in which Israeli occupation forces have maintained a near-total blackout of the territory, cutting off both internet and telephone networks.
Efforts to restore service have been obstructed. UNRWA reports that Israeli forces continue to block maintenance teams from the local telecommunications company, preventing access to damaged infrastructure.
The Palestinian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority announced on Thursday that all internet and landline services in Gaza have been severed following the targeting of the last major fiber-optic cable servicing the Strip.
As a result, the southern and central governorates are now also in complete isolation, joining Gaza City and the northern areas in a near-total information blackout. The Authority emphasized that the destruction of communication networks and key infrastructure is an ongoing and deliberate act by Israeli forces.
This communications blackout not only hinders humanitarian operations but further isolates a besieged population already facing unprecedented levels of violence, displacement, and deprivation. UN agencies and rights groups have raised urgent alarms, calling for the protection of civilian infrastructure and unimpeded access to essential services.
