UNRWA Urges Uninterrupted Aid Flow to Avert Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza

UNRWA Warns: Gaza Residents Suffer Severe Famine After 19 Months of Aid Restrictions

DaysofPal – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Sunday that only a “sustained and effective” flow of humanitarian aid can prevent further catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, as Israel’s suffocating blockade enters its third consecutive month.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, UNRWA reiterated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached critical levels since Israeli authorities closed border crossings on 2 March, halting the delivery of essential food and medical supplies.

“The people of Gaza can no longer afford to wait for aid,” the agency said, stressing that the enclave urgently needs at least 500 to 600 aid trucks per day, coordinated by the United Nations, to meet basic humanitarian needs.

UNRWA emphasized that preventing further deterioration requires the immediate and unhindered entry of aid.

The agency reported that at least 58 people have died from malnutrition, while 242 others—mostly children and elderly—have died due to the lack of food and medicine during the 80-day siege.

The Israeli occupation continues its policy of systematic starvation, blocking the entry of humanitarian convoys and pushing Gaza’s 2.4 million residents toward famine, as trucks pile up at sealed border crossings.

In recent days, the Israeli military has intensified its ground operations in both the northern and southern regions of Gaza, further compounding the crisis.

With unwavering U.S. support, Israel has been carrying out a campaign in Gaza since 7 October 2023, which has left more than 176,000 Palestinians killed or injured—most of them women and children—and over 11,000 reported missing.
