DaysofPal- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has stated that the ongoing Israeli war in the Gaza Strip has set back human development indicators by approximately 77 years, according to a joint international report issued by the World Bank Group, the European Union, and the United Nations.
In a statement, UNRWA said the past two years have witnessed a severe deterioration in living standards, livelihoods, and food security across the Gaza Strip, alongside widening gaps in gender equality and social inclusion.
These challenges have directly impacted nearly every aspect of daily life for residents.
UNRWA highlighted that all of Gaza’s population is now experiencing immediate and long-term negative effects on physical, mental, and social health.
In addition, sources of income and means of livelihood have been significantly damaged as a result of the continued conflict and its consequences.
The report noted that life-saving humanitarian assistance provided by UNRWA, including healthcare services, has helped mitigate some of the worsening humanitarian conditions.
It also emphasized that UNRWA possesses the infrastructure, personnel, and expertise necessary to expand its operations and provide greater support to communities in Gaza.
However, it stressed that such efforts depend on allowing increased entry of humanitarian supplies and aid into the territory.
