DaysofPal – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday that it had targeted an air base in Kuwait hosting U.S. forces, hours after American strikes on Iranian military sites. The exchange marks a new escalation in tensions as efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire face increasing challenges.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, the IRGC said it had struck the air base from which U.S. forces allegedly launched an attack on Sirik Island. The announcement came shortly after Kuwaiti authorities reported intercepting what they described as hostile attacks.
The IRGC warned that any further military action against Iran would provoke a significantly stronger response, stating that a repeat of what it called aggression would be met with a “completely different” reaction.
Local media reported that air raid sirens sounded across parts of Kuwait, while the Kuwaiti military said it had intercepted incoming missiles and drones.
The developments followed a statement by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which announced that American forces had carried out defensive strikes against Iranian radar, command, and control facilities associated with drone operations.
According to CENTCOM, the targets were located in the Gorouk area of Hormozgan Province in southern Iran and on Qeshm Island. The command said the operations were conducted over the weekend and were intended as a response to what it characterized as hostile Iranian actions, including the downing of an American MQ-1 surveillance drone flying over international waters.
The U.S. military stated that these strikes were carried out carefully over Saturday and Sunday in direct response to recent aggressive actions by Iranian forces, which included the downing of an American MQ-1 drone while it was operating over international waters.
CENTCOM asserted that U.S. fighter jets successfully destroyed Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed a clear and immediate threat to vessels navigating regional maritime routes.
