DaysofPal- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a stark warning about the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, with children facing devastating consequences of the ongoing Israeli genocide and extreme weather conditions.
Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, reported that more than 40,000 children have been killed or injured due to Israeli bombing and airstrikes in Gaza.
Additionally, at least 17,000 children are now without access to caregivers or separated from their families, leaving them in precarious situations.
UNRWA also highlighted that one million children are suffering from severe psychological trauma, leaving them unable to attend school and cope with daily life.
It further warned that the ongoing heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40°C, is exacerbating the already dire humanitarian conditions.
Moreover, limited water supplies increase the risk of dehydration, while scarce electricity and fuel make it impossible to alleviate the effects of extreme heat.
“The extreme heat is making an already tragic situation even worse,” UNRWA said in a statement on its official social media account.
Furthermore, UNRWA emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire to allow humanitarian assistance to reach those most in need, as over two million Palestinians in Gaza face severe thirst as access to basic water sources has been severely disrupted.
The record temperatures are compounding shortages of drinking water and water for daily use, further straining already limited resources.
The United Nations reports that approximately 2.2 million Palestinians in Gaza are in urgent need of humanitarian aid, as healthcare, water, and sanitation services collapse and malnutrition spreads, particularly among children.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deteriorate as the Israeli genocide continues, whereas forced displacement, limited resources, and extreme heat create one of the most severe emergencies in the region.
