UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned on Thursday, June 22, 2023, the acts of sabotage carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinian citizens, describing them as “terrorist acts.”
In a statement issued on his behalf, Guterres pointed out that among these terrorist acts are “acts of sabotage, burning of lands, properties, and schools in Palestinian villages around Nablus and Ramallah.”
The Secretary-General emphasized the need to put an end to tensions and prevent further escalation, affirming that “Israel, as the occupying power, must ensure the protection of civilian populations from all acts of violence, hold perpetrators accountable and adhere to its obligations under international humanitarian law.”
Guterres underscored that a serious political process and putting an end to the occupation are the only guarantees to end this destructive cycle of violence and senseless loss of life.
Yesterday and last night, settlers launched a series of violent attacks on several villages and towns in the governorates of Ramallah, Al-Bireh, and Nablus, killing a young Palestinian man, burning dozens of houses and vehicles, and causing extensive damage to Palestinian property.
