DaysofPal – The United Nations has documented a sharp rise in settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, with more than 1,800 attacks recorded in 2025, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said that these attacks resulted in injuries or property damage in approximately 280 Palestinian communities across the West Bank.
Separate figures released by the Palestinian Authority’s Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission indicate an even higher toll. The commission documented 4,723 settler attacks against Palestinian civilians and their property throughout the West Bank during 2025.
According to the commission, settler assaults led to the killing of 14 Palestinians, while settlers also set 434 fires that destroyed homes, agricultural lands, and other civilian property.
UN Warns of Entrenched Discrimination
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has previously warned of the increasingly suffocating impact of Israel’s discriminatory policies on Palestinian life in the occupied West Bank, cautioning that these practices are increasingly resembling a system of apartheid.
In a recent report, the OHCHR stated that “systematic discrimination against Palestinians has significantly deteriorated over recent years.”
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said in an accompanying statement that Palestinians in the West Bank are subjected to a “systematic strangulation” of their rights. He described the situation as “one of the dangerous forms of discrimination and segregation,” drawing parallels to apartheid systems witnessed in the past.
Türk emphasized that nearly every aspect of Palestinian daily life in the West Bank is controlled or restricted by Israeli laws, policies, and discriminatory practices. These constraints affect access to water, education, healthcare, freedom of movement, family visits, and even the harvesting of olives.
Israeli violations against Palestinians in the West Bank have intensified to unprecedented levels, according to a comprehensive report published by the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission earlier this week.
The report, which documents “the most significant violations committed by the occupation and its settlers during 2025,” recorded a total of 23,827 attacks carried out jointly by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinian civilians and their property across the West Bank. The figure represents a record high for the number of violations documented in a single year.
