DaysofPal- The United Nations has warned that Israeli bombardment is transforming Gaza City into a barren, uninhabitable land, after weeks of escalating Israeli attacks that have razed entire neighborhoods and killed hundreds of civilians.
The UN Office for Human Rights in Palestine said 379 Palestinians were killed in 270 strikes targeting residential buildings in Gaza City over the past month alone.
The office cautioned that the destruction risks rendering the city unlivable for its 1.2 million residents.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric noted that thousands of families remain trapped in the besieged territory, unable to flee because of “health and security concerns, along with the prohibitive costs of transportation.”
Local health authorities described the scale of the Israeli assault as catastrophic.
Dr. Munir al-Bursh, Director-General of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, warned that Israel’s actions amount to “systematic genocide,” aimed at dismantling humanitarian services and infrastructure to force mass displacement.
Al-Bursh said the health sector is collapsing under the weight of the ongoing siege, with a critical shortage of medical supplies and nearly 75 percent of essential medicines depleted.
“The occupation is not only destroying infrastructure but striking directly at the health system,” he said.
Despite dire shortages and repeated strikes, medical staff continue to work in what al-Bursh described as “horrific field and humanitarian conditions.”
Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces have intensified bombardment on Gaza City’s high-rises and multi-story residential complexes, which observers say may signal preparations for a full ground occupation and the forced removal of residents.
Most civilians, however, insist on staying in their homes despite the escalating Israeli crimes against them, which have claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians, including entire families.
