DaysofPal- Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, has sharply criticized the Israeli army, describing it as “the most degenerate” force in a comment on a video showing soldiers assaulting a Palestinian child.
Writing on Sunday, Albanese said she had “seen enough to say this with certainty,” referring to the violations she has documented through her work monitoring conditions in Palestinian areas.
Her remarks followed the circulation of a video that captured Israeli soldiers detaining two Palestinian children during a raid on the village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
The footage shows one soldier forcibly grabbing a child, pushing and mistreating him while he tries to break free, while other soldiers hold a second child nearby.
In a related development, Albanese revealed that she has faced increasing threats since publishing a report accusing Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip. She described her life as resembling a “rollercoaster ride” due to the mounting pressure.
In an interview with The Guardian, she said she had received death threats and now lives with a constant sense of danger linked to her positions and reporting on violations in Palestinian territories.
Albanese noted that she was among the first international officials to use the term “genocide” to describe events in Gaza, arguing that the situation exposes deep flaws in the international system that allow grave abuses to occur without accountability.
Approximately 360 Palestinian children are currently detained in Israel, according to official statistics, and they endure terrible conditions akin to those faced by adult inmates.
