The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, called on the Israeli occupation authorities to halt demolitions and displacement in the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT).
For her part, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Lynn Hastings, warned in a separate statement that the Israeli Occupation Supreme Court’s rejection of petitions against displacement orders amounts to forcible transfer, contrary to resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and international law.
“As all domestic legal remedies have been exhausted, the community is now unprotected and at risk of imminent displacement,” Hastings said.
She reiterated the calls of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Israel “to cease demolitions and evictions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, in line with its obligations under international law.”
