The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has vehemently denounced the recent legislative efforts by the Israeli parliament to designate the United Nations Relief for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.
In an official statement, the ministry expressed its firm disapproval of this move, citing its concerns over the targeting of civilians seeking refuge in UNRWA-operated schools in Gaza and the tragic loss of nearly 200 UN personnel over the past nine months.
The Turkish ministry underscored the international community’s responsibility to condemn such actions against UNRWA, emphasizing the vital humanitarian role played by the agency in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees.
Israel’s parliamentary approval, in its initial readings on Monday, of three bills aimed at shuttering UNRWA and classifying it as a terrorist entity has sparked significant diplomatic backlash, with Turkey calling for unified international condemnation of these legislative measures.
