The Israeli occupation has opened a tunnel extending from the Western Wall Plaza to the Umayyad Palaces adjacent to the southern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Palestinian researcher Mu’ath Ighbariyya, from Umm al-Fahm city, revealed Saturday, September 30.
Ighbariyya stated that this tunnel represents a clear attempt to alter the landmarks of the holy city and the vicinity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, promoting the so-called “Temple Mount.”
He explained that access to the tunnel is through the Moroccan Gate in the town of Silwan. From there, it leads to the Buraq (Western) Wall, and then it veers to the right, where the tunnel entrance extends approximately 200 meters and stands 15 meters high.

He pointed out that the tunnel, which opened three months ago, starts as a flat walkway and then descends underground about 15 meters. It leads to a museum displaying artefacts claimed to have been found during excavations in the Umayyad Palaces, including the “Star of David” and the “Menorah”.
Moreover, he mentioned that the museum leads to a photo exhibition that supposedly showcases the history of Jerusalem, claiming that the old Al-Aqsa was a passageway to the alleged “Temple.”
Inside the tunnel, visitors are presented with a film in three languages – Arabic, English, and Hebrew – promoting the alleged “Temple” and hinting at the presence of a Christian church around the Dome of the Rock.
