DayofPal– Three more Gazan children have frozen to death last night due to sever, harsh and unbearable cold inflicting the enclave, raising the death toll from cold to 11 since the winter started.
Saeed Salah, the director of the Patient’s Friends Benevolent Society in Gaza City, reported on a video on X that three more children have died due to the “severe cold” as Israel continues to bar the entry of temporary homes into the Palestinian enclave, including new tents and mobile homes.
He added that there were other serious cases who are on the brink, warning of more casualties from cold.
Israel was supposed to allow some 60,000 mobile homes and 200,000 tents into Gaza as part of the first phase of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
However, none of the temporary homes has entered, while only a fraction of the tents have been let in, according to Gaza Government authorities.
“We appeal to the relevant authorities to provide caravans, camps, and fuel to provide warmth for people and protect children, especially with the arrival of a new low-pressure system,” Dr. Saeed added.
In January, UNRWA said at least eight newborns had died of hypothermia and harsh cold in the Gaza Strip in only one month alone, shedding lights on the dire conditions dosplaced people are suffering under tough circumstances and severe cold.
The truce now appears in jeopardy after Israel halted the release of some 620 Palestinians who were supposed to be freed on Saturday. Therefore, it’s expected that Netanyahu will impose more restrictions on the entry of mobile homes and tents in the coming days.
