DaysofPal – The National Committee for the Missing in the War on Gaza has revealed that more than 10,000 Palestinians remain buried beneath the rubble of their destroyed homes, as Gaza “turns into the largest mass grave in the world.”
Speaking at a press conference in Gaza City, committee spokesperson Alaa al-Din al-Aklouk said the missing were “martyrs buried under the ruins of their homes, without their dignity preserved or their bodies recovered.”
Al-Aklouk condemned what he described as the failure of international and humanitarian organizations to act, particularly those specializing in the issue of missing persons, amid an “escalating humanitarian catastrophe.”
He also criticized the double standards of the international community, highlighting the attention given to the recovery of Israeli captives’ remains while thousands of Palestinian victims remain unrecovered. This, he said, reflected “grave injustice and clear bias against Gaza’s victims.”
The committee called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to activate all political and legal mechanisms to address the issue and provide support to families of the missing.
It also urged the international community to deploy specialized search teams and heavy machinery to recover bodies trapped beneath the rubble and to conduct DNA tests to identify them.
Al-Aklouk further appealed for the acceleration of reconstruction efforts, beginning with debris removal and the recovery of the dead.
According to the committee, the number of people still missing underscores the scale of devastation caused by Israel’s ongoing assault, which has killed more than 68,000 Palestinians and wounded 170,000 others since October 2023, most of them women and children.
Despite the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, Israeli forces continue to impose a tight blockade and carry out violations, hindering recovery and relief efforts across the devastated Strip.
