This came in a statement by the Palestinian Foreign Ministry, in response to the Israeli army’s decision to “reprimand” a military commander, after an investigation into the Murdering of the elderly Omar Asaad, who holds American citizenship.
On Wednesday, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates described Israel’s contentment with “reprimanding” the killers of the martyr Omar Asaad (78 years), as a “farce”, and considered the investigation of its army another “crime”, added to the murder of the Palestinian-American citizen Omar Asaad, and “disregard for the lives of the Palestinians.
This came in a statement by the Political Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Ahmed Al-Deek, commenting on the decision to “reprimand” an Israeli military commander, after an investigation into the killing of the elderly Asaad, who holds American citizenship.
Al-Deek added: “The occupation army’s investigations into the murder of the elderly Omar Asaad, and the results that came out, are a farce and an attempt to cover up the criminals, killers and those who stand behind them, and it is like another crime committed against the martyr Asaad.”
He said that “sufficiency in reprimanding the killers of the martyr Asaad is an official Israeli disregard for the life of the Palestinian citizen, and an attempt to respond to the formal American pressures to circumvent it to absorb it.”
Al-Deek added that the Israeli army’s investigations “are added to the many investigation committees and formal trials that the occupying state may resort to under pressure and compulsion, and in most cases lead to either acquitting the perpetrators or issuing lenient sentences for them to be released later by official Israeli decisions.”
The Palestinian official added that “what is required in such cases is a legal criminal investigation, not military investigation committees formed by the occupation army that is originally accused of committing the crime.”
It is noteworthy that Asaad was killed on January 12 in the town of Jiljilya, north of Ramallah (central), shortly after he was detained by the Israeli occupation forces.
Last Monday, the Israeli army said, in an official statement: “that its investigation concluded that ” the incident is serious and unfortunate, caused by a moral failure of the military force.”
The army decided to “reprimand” the commander of the “Netzah Yehuda” battalion by the commander of the Central Command, and said that “measures of immediate dismissal will be taken, against both the company commander and the platoon commander, and they will not occupy leadership positions for two years.”
Asaad’s death sparked a dispute between Israel and the United States of America, of which Asaad holds a nationality.
In response to the results of the Israeli investigation, the US State Department said that Washington “demands a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of his death and full accountability of the perpetrators.”
