DaysofPal— A senior Hamas official has called for decisive international action in response to the Israeli escalation of violations against Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
Mahmoud Mardawi, a leader in Hamas, said in a press statement on Wednesday that detainees, particularly female prisoners held in Damon Prison, are facing intensified repression, abuse, and deprivation.
Mardawi described the alleged treatment as a “dangerous escalation,” accusing Israeli occupation of disregarding humanitarian values and international law.
He added that the targeting of female prisoners represents “an assault on all Palestinians and all free people worldwide.”
He stressed that the situation requires more than verbal condemnation, calling for concrete steps and stronger positions that match the scale of the reported violations.
The Hamas official also urged increased efforts to support prisoners, describing their cause as a national priority that cannot be neglected, particularly in light of the harsh conditions and abusive treatment.
Mardawi called on political factions, civil society groups, and international actors to intensify pressure through political, media, and legal channels to ensure the safety of detainees and bring an end to their suffering.
His remarks come amid growing public concern and anger over the situation of Palestinian prisoners, including opposition to proposed measures that could further endanger detainees’ lives.
