South African Minister of Public Service and Administration, Noxolo Kiviet, broke down Friday, June 30, 2023, after witnessing the horrific outcome of the latest Israeli settlers’ pogroms carried out against the town of Turmus Ayya, northeast of Ramallah.
The field visit started with the minister paying a visit to the residence of the martyr Omar Jabara, where she met his wife, children, and a few of his relatives to offer her condolences and express her deep grief over their loss.
The South African minister was shocked by the effects of the fire, waged by Istraeli settlers, and the destruction on dozens of Palestinian homes, cars, and crops in the town, expressing her anger as such attacks still occur during the year of 2023.
“The experiences of people here are horrific, traumatizing, and sad, particularly for people who came from South Africa and lived in similar circumstances,” said the minister while stressing the similarities between the Apartheid regime in south-African government and the current Israeli government.
“What is happening in Palestine depicts what occurred in South Africa in terms of racism and racial and religious segregation. That is why we are paying this visit to support Palestinian residents, offer our condolences, and stand by them. “ said the South African minister.
On June 21, Israeli settlers killed the 25-year-old Palestinian youth Omar Jabara and injured at least 12 Palestinians with live ammunition after in the Palestinian town of Turmusaya.
