DaysofPal- Violations against Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons continue to escalate, with prisoners facing repeated repression and deliberate medical neglect in what rights groups describe as a grave breach of international humanitarian law.

In this context, Palestinian prisoner Aisha Awad Al-Obayat, from the village of Al-Obayat near Bethlehem, who has been detained since June 20, 2025, has revealed details of violent practices inside Damon Prison, shedding light on the serious threats facing female detainees amid the absence of oversight or accountability.

Al-Obayat reported that female prisoners have been subjected to multiple repression raids involving physical assault and the direct spraying of tear gas into their faces. She said the most violent of these incidents occurred on May 12, followed by two additional raids in recent days.

According to her testimony, repression forces sprayed gas into her eyes and those of another detainee before forcing them to the ground and beating them with boots on their backs. The women were then restrained with painful plastic handcuffs behind their backs.

She added that prison authorities used three gas canisters during the previous raid and one canister in the most recent incident, describing this as “the least harmful” compared to earlier assaults.

Al-Obayat also spoke of the deteriorating health conditions among female prisoners. She said one detainee lost consciousness and suffered a severe drop in blood pressure, yet the only response from prison authorities was to instruct her to drink water and raise her legs while refusing to conduct any medical examinations.

She further noted that one prisoner has suffered untreated wounds to her hands since the day of her arrest, while another has endured sprains to her hand and foot following one of the repression raids and continues to be denied medical care.

These practices constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international conventions guaranteeing the protection of detainees, including the right to be free from torture and cruel or degrading treatment, and the right to adequate medical care.

For its part, the Prisoners’ Media Office stated that Damon Prison has become a “scene of systematic assaults” against female detainees, stressing that the ongoing abuses represent a serious violation of international law and a direct threat to the lives of imprisoned women.

The office held Israeli authorities fully responsible for the violations and called for urgent international intervention, the opening of an immediate investigation, an end to repression operations, and the termination of the policy of medical neglect against female prisoners.
