DaysofPal – Israeli occupation forces continued violating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on Saturday for the 226th consecutive day, carrying out air and artillery strikes as well as gunfire across several parts of the enclave.
Local sources reported that several civilians were wounded by shrapnel from an Israeli drone bomb in the Halawa camp in northern Gaza. Israeli artillery also shelled areas northeast of the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip, in addition to locations east of the Al-Zeitoun neighborhood southeast of Gaza City.
Simultaneously, Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike targeting the eastern area of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
Israeli forces have continued to breach the ceasefire agreement through ongoing aerial and artillery bombardment targeting areas sheltering displaced civilians, alongside demolition and destruction operations inside what is referred to as the “yellow line.” Restrictions on the movement of goods, humanitarian aid, and travel also remain in place.
Regarding Gaza’s crossings, a weekly report on border crossings and commercial movement stated that only 1,287 trucks entered the Strip and just 403 travelers crossed during the past week, amid continuing Israeli restrictions on the movement of people, goods, and fuel supplies.
The report, issued by Gaza’s Government Media Office for the period between May 15 and May 21, revealed that a total of 403 people traveled through the Rafah crossing, including 249 departures and 154 returnees. This represented only 28 percent of the 1,400 cases that were expected to be allowed passage.
The report described the travel restrictions as part of a “systematic policy to restrict freedom of movement,” noting that Israeli authorities reopened the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing on February 2 in an extremely limited capacity after taking control of it in May 2024.
Since the crossing partially reopened, only around 700 patients have been able to leave Gaza for medical treatment abroad, while more than 18,000 wounded and sick individuals remain on waiting lists for medical evacuation. Testimonies also indicated that returnees have been subjected to strict procedures, including detention and interrogations lasting for several hours.
According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians killed since the ceasefire began on October 10 last year has risen to 887, in addition to 2,648 injuries and 776 recorded body recoveries.
The overall toll of the Israeli genocidal campaign on Gaza since October 7, 2023, has reached approximately 72,779 deaths and 172,750 injuries, underscoring the devastating human cost of the ongoing war on the enclave.
