In a bid to improve the health sector in Gaza, which suffers from chronic power outages due to the blockade, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has donated a solar power system to Al-Quds Hospital, run by Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
The project, which cost QR 1.6m, involved installing 498 solar panels that can generate 323-kilowatt electricity for the hospital, which offers various medical services to the population of Gaza.
Dr. Akram Nassar, head of QRCS’s representation office in Gaza, said that the solar power system would help to ensure the continuity of health services for patients at the hospital’s facilities, especially in emergencies and critical cases.
Dr. Bashar Murad, Director-General of PRCS – Gaza, expressed his gratitude to QRCS for its generous support, saying that the organization’s hospitals badly needed power supply 24/7 to continue to provide high-quality and life-saving health services.
He added that the solar power system would also reduce the operational costs of the hospital, which relies on fuel-powered generators during the power cuts that last for over 12 hours a day.
QRCS and PRCS have a long history of cooperation in various humanitarian fields, including health, relief, and social development. QRCS has implemented many projects in Gaza to enhance the health sector and alleviate the suffering of the people under the Israeli blockade.
