Protesters Burn Quran Again in Sweden While It Considers Legal Options

Two individuals burned the Quran again in Stockholm Monday, July 31, while a minister informed Muslim countries that Sweden is currently looking into its legal options.

The two men held a sit-in protest in front of Sweden’s parliament, where they kicked the Quran and burned its pages.

The protesters told media that they want to see the Quran banned in Sweden.

“I will burn it many times until you ban it,” organizer Salwan Najem said.

Najem has participated in two previous protests in Stockholm, first in front of the city’s main mosque and then in front of Iraq’s embassy, alongside Mr. Momika, an Iraqi-born activist.

Despite being denounced by the Muslim world, this is the third such act of desecration that protesters Salwan Najem and Salwan Momika have carried out in the past few weeks.

According to local media outlets, Swedish police have granted permission for a protest in front of the Swedish parliament that was scheduled to include the burning of the Quran.

Tension Rises after burning Quran

Tension Rises after burning Quran

The diplomatic relations between Sweden and a number of Middle Eastern nations have been strained in the wake of prior protests involving the burning and desecration of the Quran.

In response to the protests in Sweden and Denmark, Saudi Arabia and Iraq called for a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday.

After the government was accused of tolerating the protests, Sweden’s Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom said that Swedish police make their own decisions about whether or not to allow protests.

He said Sweden’s Justice Ministry “is analyzing the legal situation, including the Public Order Act” following judicial decisions rejecting prior attempts to prohibit the gatherings.

On Sunday, the Danish Foreign Ministry said they hope to find a “legal tool” to take action, which they hope will help cool the tense situation down.

The government said it would seek powers to intervene if there are “significant negative consequences for Denmark, not least with regard to security”.

Both Swedish and Danish envoys have been summoned by Iraq.

Israeli Settlers Do the Same

Israeli setlers burn Quran in Hebron

Israeli colonizers carry out such terrorist acts against Islamic and Christian sites, books, and equipment in occupied Palestine while the Israeli occupation government continues to turn a blind eye.

on Thursday 22 June 2023, Israeli Settlers’ gangs stormed the Mosque of Orief village in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus and cause great damage to the mosque, tearing the holy book of Quran and throwing it to the ground.

Earlier on October 10, 2022, the extremist Israeli settlers tore up and burned copies of the Holy Qur’an and threw them in a garbage container near the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank city of Hebron.

As well, Catholic Churches called Saturday, July 29, 2023, to stop persecuting Christians and attacking their sanctities across occupied Palestine by zionist forces and Israeli settlers, in light of the escalation of human rights violations in recent months, especially in occupied Jerusalem.

It pointed out that extremist Israeli colonizers attacked, under Israeli forces’ protection, the monastery of the “Virgin Mary” in Haifa, known as the “Monastery of Stella Maris” or the Star of the Sea, at the top of Mount Carmel.

This is not the first time that these extremist Israeli settlers have attacked and desecrated Islamic and Christian holy books and holy sites, as they practice these crimes on an ongoing basis amid international silence towards these crimes.
