DayofPal—Dozens of activists staged a protest in the Fijian capital Suva opposing the planned opening of a new Israeli embassy in the country.
The demonstration, led by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, was described as peaceful, with participants gathering outside the centre to express their rejection of the diplomatic move.
Witnesses said protesters held banners and chanted slogans during the rally, voicing opposition to the embassy opening.
Police were deployed in large numbers around the site from the beginning of the protest, imposing strict security measures.
According to local sources, authorities restricted parts of the demonstration, including removing some banners and limiting chants under public order laws.
Organizers said officials specifically targeted slogans viewed as politically sensitive and classified the gathering as a potential security concern.
Despite the restrictions, protesters continued their demonstration, with tensions reported on the ground as security forces maintained a heavy presence throughout the event.
