Israeli occupation forces have detained about 400 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem so far in 2023, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Society PPS.
In a statement, the PPS said that Israeli forces have detained 400 Palestinians since the start of 2023. It pointed out that 40 were arrested in the last few hours.
In a related development, the Palestinian commission of detainees and ex-detainees stated that the number of Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences has reached 553.
The commission pointed out that Israeli occupation forces sentenced the Palestinian prisoner Mohammmed Atawneh to life imprisonment, 99 years in prison.
It added that Atawneh is the 553rd Palestinian prisoner to serve a life-imprisonment sentence in Israeli prisons.
According to Palestinian figures, Israeli occupation authorities hold some 4,700 Palestinians, including 29 female prisoners, and 150 minors.
