PCDS: Our operations paralyzed in northern Gaza
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

DaysofPal- The Palestinian Civil Defense Society (PCDS) said on Friday that its operations in the northern Gaza Strip have been forcibly halted for 24 days, leaving thousands of citizens without humanitarian services or medical care due to the atrocities committed by Israel.

The PCDS reported that the Israeli army attacked its crews in northern Gaza on October 24, seizing their vehicles and displacing most of its personnel to central and southern Gaza, while abducting ten of them.

PCDS called on humanitarian organizations to “respond to the pleas and suffering of thousands of trapped citizens in northern Gaza due to the ongoing Israeli crimes and to work seriously to restore the operations of the Civil Defense and to operate its disabled vehicles in Beit Lahia.”

On October 5, the Israeli army launched a ground invasion of northern Gaza, under the pretext of “preventing Hamas from regaining strength in the area.” Palestinians charged that Israel aims to occupy northern Gaza and transform it into a buffer zone after displacing its residents, under the weight of relentless bombing and a severe blockade that prevents the entry of food, water, and medicine.

Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza, said that there is an urgent need for thousands of surgical operations in northern Gaza, but the minimum supplies and capabilities are not available, as the Israeli occupation has prevented the entry of goods and medical supplies into the area for 200 consecutive days.

In media statements on Thursday, Al-Thawabta emphasized that the situation in northern Gaza is catastrophic “in every sense of the word,” as the occupation army continues its campaign of genocide by committing more crimes and massacres against Palestinian civilians.

He noted that the remaining functioning hospitals lack the capacity to accommodate the large number of wounded, amidst the exhaustion caused by the immense pressure faced by medical staff since the beginning of the aggression a year ago, in addition to the lack of medical supplies to assist in treating the injured and sick.

He pointed out that “there is a need to perform more than 100,000 surgical operations for the injured in northern Gaza.”

Al-Thawabta condemned the international community’s silence regarding the situation in northern Gaza and said, “We are sounding the alarm and telling the international community that it must intervene.”

He called on the Security Council and the international community to pressure the Israeli occupation by all means to stop the genocide facing civilians in Gaza, which has claimed the lives of children and women.

Israeli occupation forces continue their incursion into northern Gaza, conducting a wide-ranging attack on the areas of Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, and Jabalia for more than 50 consecutive days, imposing a tight blockade on northern Gaza and forcibly displacing 120,000 citizens from their homes under the threat of violence and killing.

Northern Gaza continues to suffer from dire conditions, including a shortage of drinking water, medicine, and food supplies, along with the prohibition of humanitarian aid, amidst ongoing aerial and artillery bombardments, as well as land leveling and demolitions in the area, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

With U.S. support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in over 147,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of whom are children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

Israel continues its massacres, ignoring the United Nations Security Council’s resolution to end them immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
