Dozens of Palestinians in Gaza participated in a vigil in solidarity with the sick Palestinian detainees Walid Daqqa and Asif Al-Refa’i, and other sick detainees, Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
The participants raised detainees’ pictures and banners calling for the immediate release of the cancer-patient detainees Daqqa and Al-Refa’i and all sick detainees inside Israeli prisons.
They stressed that the Palestinian detainees inside Israeli occupation prisons are the core of the Palestinian issue and their issue is the responsibility of every Palestinian.
The participants called on the international community to act urgently, stop Israeli crimes against Palestinian detainees, and pressure it to release them all as it’s their legal human right guaranteed by international law.
It is noteworthy that Daqqa was diagnosed with a rare type of bone marrow cancer several months ago and has been suffering successive health setbacks.
Similarly, Asif Al-Rifa’i, 20, from the town of Kafr Ein in Ramallah, has cancer in the colon and glands and suffers from critical health conditions.
The number of sick Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons has increased to 750, including patients with chronic and serious diseases and 26 cancer patients, according to Wa’ed Association for Detainees and Ex-detainees.
