DayofPal– A the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, Palestinian women have been in the crosschairs of Israeli ongoing assault campaigns.
Palestinian Prisoners’ Society stated that over 435 Palestinian women have been arrested by Israeli occupation forces in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem since October 7, 2023.
The Prisoners Society revealed that there is no clear estimate of the number of women who were detained from the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli genocidal war with many having been vulnerable to displacement dire conditions.
Gaza Media Office also reported that 11,979 women have been killed in Gaza since the onset of the war with 600 families having lost their mother, and more than 27 women were killed only in the last week.
The Palestinian women are enduring the darkest and bloody chapter in the history of struggle against the Israeli occupation. Amidst the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, they are subjected to an alarming surge in brutal crimes and violations, the Prisoners Society said.
“They are facing a series of unprecedented crimes and serious violations against them, and the escalation of detentions and attacks at various levels, including sexual assaults,” it added.
The Society called on the world and Human Rights organization to protect Palestinian women and hold Israeli criminals accountable for their war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Reem Al-Salem, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, told Al Jazeera that Gaza pregnant women have been deliberately killed while fleeing Israeli bombing on their neighbourhoods. There is also an increase in abortion cases due to extreme fear and trauma.
She added that hundreds of women are being forced to give birth without anesthetization after Israel destroyed the health system in Gaza. Many can’t even do breastfeeding due to famine.
“There are nearly half a million women and girls of reproductive age in Gaza who are unable to meet their basic health needs,” she pointed out.
The rapporteur also revealed that 70% of death toll in Gaza are women and children with the youngest victim is only aged one day.
“It’s impossible to allow Israeli genocide continues against women and children.”
