DaysofPal- Hamas political bureau member Osama Hamdan has reaffirmed the Movement’s stance on the establishment of a government of national unity that can manage Palestinian affairs, calling it a “priority to close ranks in the face of the current challenges.”
During their most recent meeting in Cairo, Hamas and Fatah officials agreed that a committee should be established to oversee Gaza Strip affairs.
However, Hamdan said in a press statement on Monday that the meetings that were scheduled to take place later to make arrangements in this regard were delayed because of certain events that occurred on the ground, most notably the martyrdom of Yehya as-Sinwar, the head of the Hamas political bureau.
In a different context, Hamdan highlighted that the Israeli occupation aims to achieve through ceasefire negotiations what it couldn’t accomplish on the ground, emphasizing that the objectives the Israelis seek in these talks are “unacceptable and impossible.”
“The occupation aims to get back the captives being held by the resistance through pressure. It wants the resistance to raise the white flag and surrender first and then decide whether to stop the war or not,” Hamdan said.
The Hamas official stated that while Hamas is committed to ending the Israeli aggression against its people in Gaza, he emphasized that a temporary five-day truce followed by the resumption of fighting would not serve the best interests of its people.
Hamdan emphasized that the ongoing conflict in Gaza is linked to the issue of prisoners, warning that “the lives of Israeli captives are at risk if the resistance fighters holding them go missing.”
