DaysofPal- The Palestinian Scholars Association warned Thursday that repeated Israeli incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque are part of a broader effort to impose permanent Israeli control over the site and alter its longstanding historical and legal status.
In a statement, the association described the ongoing incursions, along with accompanying measures inside the mosque compound, as a “dangerous escalation,” urging widespread action to confront the Israeli attempts to consolidate Israeli control over the site.
The association said that defending Al-Aqsa Mosque is a “religious duty” for Muslims worldwide, stressing that responsibility extends beyond Palestinians and residents of Jerusalem.
It also called on Palestinians in Jerusalem and within Israel to increase their presence at the mosque and maintain a continuous vigil, describing such actions as a key means of countering efforts to change the status quo and preserving the site’s Islamic identity.
The statement comes amid an increase in incursions by Israeli settlers to the compound, some accompanied by Israeli officials and ministers, prompting Palestinian warnings of attempts to alter longstanding arrangements governing the holy site.
