DaysofPal—Raed Amer, Director of International Relations at the Palestinian Prisoners Club Association, has described the situation inside Israeli prisons as “terrifying and deeply alarming.”
Amer said in a statement on Tuesday that testimonies from released prisoners and attorneys have revealed the grim and degrading conditions faced by male and female detainees held in Israeli prisons.
He explained that human rights organizations have extensively documented accounts from former prisoners and lawyers who managed to visit detainees, reporting “horrifying” details about the abuse, mistreatment, and violations occurring behind bars.
Amer added that the Palestinian Prisoners Club is actively working on the international level to bring attention to the suffering of prisoners and to inform relevant global bodies about the ongoing violations taking place inside Israeli detention facilities.
He pointed to a newly released report on the state of the Palestinian prisoner movement during the first half of 2025, describing it as containing “extremely dangerous findings” related to conditions of detention, and the Israeli policies of abuse, starvation, and humiliation.
“This is reflected in Israel’s admission that 73 prisoners have died under torture, which amounts to executions,” Amer said. “And this figure does not even include prisoners from Gaza who were executed.”
According to Amer, Israeli forces have arrested more than 18,000 Palestinians in recent months. Currently, there are around 11,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails, nearly half of them under administrative detention without charge or trial. Among them are 50 female prisoners and approximately 40 journalists.
