On Thursday, October 5th, 2023, Palestinian prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails resorted to a further revolutionary measure to fend off the Israeli Prison Service’s repressive campaign against them, according to the Ministry of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs.
The prisoners decided early this morning to shut down all prisons’ sections, return their meals, and disrupt all aspects of life there in a bid to cease the torrent of brutal aggression by the extremist Israeli National Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, also known among officials as the Minister of Chaos.
The Ministry underscored in a statement that prisoners’ step feeds on solidarity efforts with the hunger-striking prisoner Kaied Fasfous, who has been battling a hunger strike for 64 consecutive days, for the third time in his life.
Just one day earlier, a tense atmosphere was ignited in the Israeli prison of Gilboa as Ben Gvir stormed the prison’s sections 3 and 1 to ensure that the conditions of hundreds of Palestinians incarcerated there are sufficiently punitive.
He further ordered to fire sound bombs at Palestinian prisoners during his raid into the high-security prison, where thorough searches of cells were also carried out.
Wednesday’s raid was the third in a week, following the recent operation in Section 5 of Raymond Prison and a significant transfer of prisoners, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) reported.
Since taking office, Ben Gvir has imposed a number of punitive and abusive measures on Palestinian prisoners, including the arbitrary movement of prisoners from one prison to another; the denial of family visits; and the deprivation of adequate bathroom time.
Previously, the Israeli Prison Service sounded alarm on Ben-Gvir’s actions, stressing they could lead to violence inside the prisons and even a general hunger strike. However, Ben-Gvir is following through on his electoral agenda of tightening up on Palestinian prisoners and ending their privileges.
