DaysofPal- The Palestinian Prisoners Information Office has warned of a worsening health situation among several Palestinian detainees held in Israel’s Janot Prison, citing ongoing medical neglect and delays in providing necessary treatment.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the office reported that a number of prisoners are suffering from severe dental and oral health problems, including acute pain in their teeth and molars, while complaints persist over inadequate medical care inside the facility.
According to the statement, some detainees face difficulties accessing treatment or receiving regular medical follow-up, leading to the deterioration of their health conditions and increasing their suffering. The office further noted that these health crises are exacerbated by harsh overall detention conditions, which include poor-quality food and shortages of basic necessities, factors that further aggravate prisoners’ illnesses and symptoms.
The office stressed that the continued disregard for prisoners’ healthcare needs, particularly dental treatment, constitutes a violation of their fundamental rights and exposes them to preventable health complications that could be avoided through proper medical care.
It called on international organizations and human rights bodies to intervene and pressure Israeli occupation forces to end the policy of medical neglect and to ensure the immediate provision of treatment and adequate healthcare for sick prisoners without delay.
Since October 2023, Israel has carried out more than 23,000 arrests across the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian figures.
Prisoner advocacy organizations estimate that more than 9,400 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons, including 86 female prisoners and 3,376 administrative detainees. The figures also include 1,283 detainees classified by Israeli occupation forces as “unlawful combatants.”
