Today marks 22 years since Abdul Rahman Weshah, a Palestinian political prisoner held in an Israeli prison, was placed behind bars, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society.
Weshah, originally from the Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, was apprehended on May 28, 2001 and given a life sentence for his resistance to the Israeli occupation.
Israeli authorities are continuing to imprison a large number of Palestinian and Arab prisoners for resisting the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
As of today, the number of Palestinian prisoners stands at more than 4,600. The prisoners are said to have been arrested for a variety of offenses related to their political resistance against the Israeli occupation.
