DayofPal-The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office (ASRA) has accused Israeli prison authorities of subjecting 59-year-old Palestinian prisoner Abbas Al-Sayed to severe torture and mistreatment in Ramon Prison.
According to a report published by ASRA, a fellow prisoner testified that Al-Sayed has been brutally assaulted around the clock by Israeli prison officers, who stormed his cell, severely beat him, and later transferred him to an undisclosed location.
The report shows that Al-Sayed has been repeatedly taken to night punishment cells, where he is shackled by his hands and feet and forced to sleep on his stomach for long hours in freezing conditions.
In addition to physical abuse, Al-Sayed is reportedly suffering from scabies, which has developed painful boils that spread across his body. Despite his deteriorating health, the prison administration has allegedly denied him medical treatment.
The International Covenant Foundation, a rights organization, has condemned the reported mistreatment and is holding the Israeli prison administration responsible for Al-Sayed’s condition from Tulkarem after hearing the testimony of a prisoner from the Ramon prison.
Human rights groups have previously raised concerns over the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention centers, calling for international intervention to prevent further abuse.
